  • is this fair trade??

    the navy signed my brother up, and is giving my family cups- plastic mugs, traveling mugs, cups, water bottles. it's like, *read in voices from the old oregon trail-esque games*
    "we'll give you 20 gazillion cups in trade for a joseph"
    "sure, that sounds fair"

    (he goes to basic training in august, and then more training after that. he's in the reserves)
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    my grand public announcement is that i'm going to North Park University next semester (even though a lot of people know this by now, i'm sure not everybody does)
    at the moment, i'm focusing on not drowning under 3 jobs + school. i'm treading water pretty well, i think.
  • i forget that this blog is for writing on. i've just been checking other's blogs for a long time now, because writing really isn't my thing. i kind of hate writing, actually- i'd rather read. i'm reading madame bovary right now for my lit class: i haven't gotten to any scandelous bits yet. mostly i've just been confused when i come across sentences about ladies not placing their gloves in their glasses at a banquet. i do not have that kind of cultural context.
    my cultural context is really messy, now that i'm thinking about it. i suppose it includes my swedishness- my crazy african brother- everybody i know spontaneosly bursting into a soulja boy song and dance... you know, stuff like that.
  • "and i'm not even chocolate, so they can't eat me"
    at the end of the afterschool program today pierre and i were on the jungle gym hanging out with some kids who go to the soccer program mondays. it was ok until i said something and they realized i knew pierre.
    "he your friend?"
    "he's my brother."
    "that's wierd. you're white and he's chocolate."
    "he's adopted"
    sure- ok- i know that we don't add up exactly, so it should be fine for them to ask, but it got on my nerves that they said it was wierd. and they kept on going- talking about our parents:
    "are your parents white?"
    "is one white and one chocolate?"
    "are the chocolate?"
    and they never stopped saying it was wierd. just never stopped. someone's mom was standing right there, and she never said a thing.
    i'm sure i'm over-reacting a bit. they weren't really racist, they just were rude.
    and the "chocolate" thing annoyed pierre, hence the title of this blog
  • klara, fardiga, GA! or something to that general swedish effect..
    so, i suppose i have news, and even though i really don't feel clever enough to present it in a blog, here it is:
    everyone is officially home-
    as of tonight, timothy is back from danish camp,
    i flew home a week ago saturday,
    and before that, the rest of my family collected themselves as well
    i started my school stuff too-
    only one class at Forest Park this semester, because British Lit. was apparently canceled, so i just have pre-calculus there, and the rest of my stuff is online with *missouri virtual instruction program* which is basically virtual public school. i think i might like it, but we'll have to see
    and i got a job!
    i'm working at the freedom school's afterschool program, which started today... i do daycare-esque activities with kids
    also, news of the pierragon:
    his most recent visa was not renewed, and so my family is trying to cut red tape and figure out what to do to keep him here till he hits the 2 year mark, which apparently will mean we can start the american citizen process. i don't understand any of this, so, any questions are probably better directed towards my parents if you actually want to know what's going on
    mmm i think that's it for now
